What stays in your browser
The site saves a few things in your browser's local storage so they are there next time:
- your light or dark theme choice,
- your answers to practice questions,
- the design you are working on in the design review.
These are never sent to us. You can remove them by clearing this site's data in your browser, and the practice page has a button to reset your progress.
What our hosting sees
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web server, it receives your IP address, your browser's user agent and the pages you request, so it can deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare handles this under its own privacy policy.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and measure how fast pages load. It does not use cookies or follow you across other sites.
The AI-assisted design review
The rule checks on the design review page run in your browser and send nothing. If you ask for the AI-assisted review, the design you entered (service names, data stores, calls, platform choices and any notes) is sent to our review service, which passes it to an AI model provider to write the critique.
- We do not store the design or the critique.
- The provider may keep the request for a limited time under its own data policies, for example to detect abuse.
- Your IP address is used to limit how many reviews can be requested per minute. We do not store it.
Do not include passwords, keys or personal data in a design.
Advertising
The site does not show ads yet. We plan to add one ad per page from a network for developer audiences, such as Carbon Ads or EthicalAds. Before any ads appear, this section will name the network and say what it receives.
Links to other sites
Pages link to books, sources and documentation on other sites. Their own privacy policies apply there.
Children
The site is for anyone learning about software architecture, from students to experienced engineers. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Your rights
We do not keep personal data linked to you, apart from the short-lived request logs our hosting keeps. So there is usually nothing for us to show you or delete.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
