Resilience track

Learn all 5 resilience patterns, complete the labs in this category and answer its practice questions, getting at least 70% right.

What it covers

  • Retry with Backoff and Jitter Retry transient failures with growing, randomised delays, a cap and a budget.
  • Timeout Never wait forever on a remote call. Decide how long a call may take, and stop waiting after that.
  • Circuit Breaker Stop calling a failing dependency for a while, fail fast, and probe to see when it has recovered.
  • Bulkhead Give each dependency or workload its own resources so one failure cannot use up everything.
  • Rate Limiting Cap how many requests a client may make in a period, and reject the rest early and cheaply.
  • Circuit Breaker and Retries lab Crash, slow down or overload a dependency. Tune the breaker, timeouts, backoff and jitter, and see which settings contain the failure and which spread it.
  • Bulkhead lab Share a thread pool between a critical and a slow dependency, watch checkouts starve, then partition the pool, tune the timeout and size each pool from the load.
  • Rate Limiting lab Let one client flood a shared API and watch normal users suffer. Add a per-client token bucket, compare instant retries with honouring Retry-After, and see what a limit or burst that is too generous does.
